Silver King Remembered
A memorial service marking the 40th anniversary of the Silver King tragedy was held Thursday evening at Saint Michael's church in Wedgeport. The service was to be followed by a visit to the cemetery, where a monument to the Silver King victims is located.
The families of the six Wedgeport fishermen who lost their lives in the accident had invited everyone to attend the memorial service.
The Silver King, a herring seiner, capsized after being struck by a tugboat in thick fog off Yarmouth in August 1967.
Perishing in the accident were Edgar Boudreau, Roderick Boudreau, Vernon Boudreau, Stanis Bourque, Camille LeBlanc and Raymond LeBlanc.
The lone survivor aboard the Silver King after it went down was an American visitor, the nephew of two of the vessel's crewmembers.
